Secondary memory is more stable, slower, less expensive, and much more efficient than primary memory. After entering the data and instructions as mentioned earlier, the instructions are executed and the result is ready. The result is stored in memory or sent to the output unit as per the requirement of the user. The computer needs to do some mathematical calculations or logical calculations to execute the instructions.

The unit in which these mathematical and logical calculations take place is called the Arithmetic Logic Unit (ALU). The computer has a control unit in addition to the ALU that manages the execution of instructions and controls the functioning of other parts of the computer. The ALL and the control unit together form the Central Processing Unit (CPU), also called the brain of the commuter.

The CPU also has some very fast memory (Cache memory). Output Unit: The output unit is usually a visual screen, called a monitor. The monitor actually points to the visual output of the entire computer box. The screen displaying information is part of the monitor. At times we use either word, treating the monitor and the screen alike. The previous monitors were death, dark and gray shades and displayed only literal and statistical information.

Currently used color monitors are capable of displaying many types of information, such as high quality graphics and animations. Special units such as speakers and headphones are used to emit sound. A printer is used for printing. Apart from this the issue is published directly on the website or sent in file form through the internet. The basic components are shown in Figure 1.2. Cutter - Introduction 3.
